Paper as a Medium

The diploma thesis "Paper as a Medium - Not Every Tile Is a Roof Tile" consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part conducts survey of paper history and describes its making in Asia and Europe. It includes chaptures that deepen problematic of paper from the view of applied and independent arts. It mentions artists, who use mainly medium of paper: czech artists Eva Kmentová, Adriena Šimotová, Jiří Hynek Kocman, Jan Činčera and american-korean female artist Sun Young Kang. The practical part includes realization of conceptual art named "Not Every Tile Is a Roof Tile." It's the only one realization of many possible. The work is made of hand-made paper in papier-maché technique with a help of the roof tile. This concept is supported by big format drawings in frottage technique. The all artistic part is documented by photos that offer next possible solution.
Informel expressions in the work of selected Czech female artists

The bachelor thesis is written as a study focused on artworks of selected female artists, who worked in the style of Czech informel. In the introductory chapter Czech informel is exposed firstly in the context of development and secondly in the artistic, cultural and culturepolitical context. Major characteristics of informel are set there and the framework for the main topic of the work is prepared, in which there is an information about the significant promotion of female artists in particular time period. In the following chapters, the selection of seven female artists is briefly presented. The study also tries to answer the question why did chosen artists prefered informel rather than any other artistic style for their work. Touches and hand prints, prints of human body in visual art

The bachelor thesis consists of the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with life and work of Eva Kmentová, who created prints and casts of human body. The thesis also deals with body print in broader context and describes chosen graphic techniques and human gestures. The practical part is devoted to the creation of graphics based on both traditional and experimental methods, which follow the knowledge mentioned in the theoretical part of the thesis.
Eva Kmentová and the Body Imprint in the Sixties and Seventies Art

The bachelor thesis deals with the physical imprint in the sixties and seventies Art. The time limitation is mainly based on the selected works of sculptor Eva Kmentová (1928-1980), in which the phenomenon of body imprint is present. The issue of body imprint is gripped in a broader theoretical context and is based on two decisive foreign works. Primarily the book of George Didi - Huberman Le Ressemblance par contace, and secondly the theoretical thesis of Rosalind Krauss and Yve-Alain Bois in their catalogue Formless : A User's Guide to the exhibition L'informe. The bachelor thesis shows a possible view on the body imprint as a dialectic phenomenon generated by meeting of formlessness - shapeless mass and of the form - represented by imprinted object. For deeper understanding of Eva Kmentová's background, the chapter summarizing the changes in Czechoslovakian informel art in the late fifties and early sixties is included. Within the context of imprint's indexical value the bachelor thesis turns to Roland Barthes and his theory of photography. It is noted that both the photography and the physical three-dimensional imprint share the barthesian values. Sculptures of Eva Kmentová in years 1958 - 1968 This bachelor thesis deals with the sculptural work of Eva Kmentová between 1958- 1968. It considers her studies in Josef Wagner's studio at Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, her cooperation with sculptor Olbram Zoubek and her participation in the Trasa art group. It focuses on the evolution of her work in this period especially on the problem of human figure. Finally, there are mentioned her activities in Václav Špála Gallery and her relationship with art historian Jindřich Chalupecký.
